Common Problems We See

- Dead induction zone. A failed power module or coil, or a cracked glass surface interrupting sensing.
- Touch controls unresponsive. A failed control board, a ribbon-cable fault, or moisture under the glass.
- Burner will not turn off or stays on high. A stuck valve or a failed control, which is worth addressing quickly.
Typical Causes
Gas ignition faults are the single most common cooktop call, and most trace to spillover that fouls the igniter or a module that has simply aged out. Induction faults are more electronic, usually a power board or coil rather than the glass. Colorado Springs altitude plays a role on gas: thinner air changes combustion slightly, so a burner that simmers unevenly often just needs the air-fuel mix and orifices checked. A good diagnosis tells you whether it is a five-minute clean or a real part.
Gas and Induction Are Different Repairs Entirely
A gas cooktop and an induction cooktop share a countertop cutout and nothing else, so which one you have changes the whole visit.
Gas is mechanical and forgiving. Burners, caps, igniters, spark modules, and valves are testable components, most of them inexpensive, and many gas cooktop calls resolve with cleaning rather than parts. A burner that clicks without lighting usually has a fouled or slightly misseated cap: spillover bakes into carbon, the spark finds an easier path than the gas does, and you get clicking with no flame. We clean and reseat first, then the igniter, then the module.
Induction is electronic and less forgiving. The coil under the glass generates the field and the power module drives it, and when a zone goes dead one of those two has gone. The diagnosis is a meter rather than a wrench, and the parts cost more.
An Induction Zone That Cuts Out Is Not Always Broken
One induction symptom gets misdiagnosed often enough to flag. A zone that works fine for several minutes and then cuts out under load is frequently not a failed module at all. Induction modules protect themselves thermally, and a cooktop with restricted ventilation underneath will shut a zone down rather than cook its own electronics.
That restriction usually has a story: a cabinet modified after installation, a drawer added below, or an installer who skipped the clearance the manual asks for. It presents exactly like a failing module, and replacing the module will not fix it. We check the install and the airflow before quoting a part, which sometimes means telling you the appliance is fine and the cabinetry is the problem.
The other induction non-fault is cookware. Induction needs ferrous cookware to couple with the field, so a pan that has lost its magnetic base, or a piece of aluminum or copper, will leave a zone that seems dead while everything else works. A magnet on the pan base settles it in a second.
