KitchenAid uses the Whirlpool-family F#-E# format, and the two-part structure is genuinely useful once you know how to read it. The F number identifies the failure category and the E number identifies the specific fault within it. Both halves carry information, and owners who report both get a faster answer.
Kitchenaid Error Codes at a Glance
| Code | Usual Meaning | What It Takes to Clear It |
|---|---|---|
| F1-E0 | Main control board or EEPROM fault | Reset power; replace the control board if it repeats |
| F2-E0 | Stuck key or touch-panel fault | Replace the touch panel or keypad |
| F2-E1 | Keypad cable shorted or disconnected | Reseat or replace the ribbon and control board |
| F3-E0 | Oven or refrigerator sensor open or shorted | Replace the sensor and inspect the harness |
| F6-E0 | Communication fault between boards | Check wiring and replace the failed control board |
How to Read the Two-Part Code
F3-E0 and F3-E1 are the same family with a real difference: F3 is the temperature sensor category, E0 is an open circuit, E1 is a shorted one. That is not academic. Open usually means a broken wire or a disconnected sensor, shorted usually means the sensor itself or a harness rubbed through against the liner.
F2-E0 is a stuck or shorted touch key. On a wall oven sitting directly above a cooktop this is frequently a heat and steam story, years of moisture working behind the membrane.
F1-E0 is the one owners dislike, because it points at the control board. It is also the code most worth a second opinion before spending.
How We Work a Kitchenaid Code
We test before we condemn, and on F1 codes that is the whole job. On F3 codes we check the harness as well as the sensor, since the wiring lives in a hot cavity for years and rubs where it passes the liner.
Parts are one of the real advantages of owning a KitchenAid. The Whirlpool group stocks broadly and prices are reasonable, and parts needs and availability are confirmed after model-specific diagnosis.
The Dishwasher Complaint That Is Not a Code
KitchenAid dishwashers bring more work than anything else in the line, and the drying complaint rarely throws a code because nothing has failed. Two things work against drying here. Front Range water scales the element and leaves the spotting that reads as poor drying but is really mineral deposit. And water boils near 202F in Colorado Springs rather than 212F, so the drying phase has less thermal energy than the same machine would have at sea level.
We test the element and the vent, and if both are healthy the honest answer is that rinse aid will do more than a repair will.
