Gaggenau sits inside the BSH group, so its dishwashers and newer ovens speak the same E-code language as Bosch, while the classic Vario cooktops report nothing at all and are read by symptom. Knowing which half of the brand you are dealing with is the first step to reading any Gaggenau fault correctly.

Reading a Gaggenau Fault
On the dishwasher side, E15 is leak protection tripping, E24 and E22 are drainage, and E09 is the heating circuit. Those behave much as they do across the BSH range, and the drainage codes are worth checking at the filter before you book anything.
The steam ovens are where Gaggenau faults get interesting in this metro, and most of them trace to one cause: scale. A combi-steam oven boils water into a cavity, and every mineral in Front Range water stays behind when the steam leaves. Steam production weakens, cycles run long, the generator works harder, and eventually you get a fault or no steam at all.
A dead Vario induction zone gives you no code because there is nothing to give one. That is a coil or a power module, and it is settled with a meter.
How We Work a Gaggenau Fault
Vario modules are independent units sharing a countertop cutout, which gives us a diagnostic shortcut most brands do not offer: we compare a working zone against a dead one on the same run and isolate the fault quickly. On steam ovens we check the generator, the inlet path, and the scale condition before touching the control.
One caution. A zone that cuts out under load after a few good minutes is often not a failed module at all. Induction modules protect themselves thermally, and a cooktop with restricted ventilation underneath will shut a zone down to survive.

Because Vario is modular, "my Gaggenau cooktop" is not enough to work with. A 400 series induction module and a 200 series gas module can sit in the same run and have nothing in common: different parts, different faults, different diagnosis.
